Travel Running IV

Somewhere between Fulmouth, Jamaica and Cozumel, Mexico I posted a 15k+ interval run that included 4x1600m intervals at 4:17/km pace. Somewhere between Fulmouth, Jamaica and Cozumel, Mexico I posted a 15k+ interval run that included 4x1600m intervals at 4:17/km pace.

Unfortunately at about 2k (before my intervals started) I had to take a bathroom break – too much water right before the run. After that it was smooth sailing (no pun intended) straight through to the end.

There were several factors that made me run treadmill rather than on the track (which they do have on the boat):

  • it was hot (really hot), with almost no breeze at all
  • we were in the middle of the ocean, so I couldn’t opt-in to an early run on shore
  • I had to do my intervals so I wanted to be accurate. With a .6k track, I’d have to do too much math to keep things accurate. I’m on vacation, and I don’t like math that much even when I’m not.

it was a good run, and I feel lime I’m fairly well prepared for the upcoming marathon. One more run on the ship before we head home!

Today’s tip: many gyms have a policy on how long you can use a piece of equipment (especially the ever-popular treadmills). Avoid confrontation with staff and waiting guests by choosing to go to the gym when it’s less busy and try to use equipment that seems out of the way. And always remember to clean your machine from all of your sweat when you’re done!
