The Ottawa Fall Colours races are very well organized, even though there was a bit of confusion for some in the last 1k of the race (which did a loop around the field, which was explained, but some missed). Having the kids running while half marathoners were finishing was frustrating for some, but I found it to be both amusing and encouraging – I like seeing the kids getting out there. The downside of having the kids run at that time is many parents who were running were unable to see their kids run, or join them – something that they’ve already acknowledged.

The cost was pretty high for this out-and-back course. Though the food and support was good, and the medal was decent, I expect Spring/Fall runs to generally give a long-sleeve T rather than short.

The course was beautiful, though difficult (a steady climb on the way out, which meant a steady decent on return). Marathoners had to do a double loop. The run out in the country was pleasant, and people were very friendly.

With a few tweaks to timing of the events, and perhaps a slight price adjustment to increase value, this event will really shine in the future.

A fun event for training and participation, but not likely somewhere you’d PR. This event provides good support, strong community, and beautiful scenery.
