I decided to head out to Winnipeg to check out the Polar Bear Run across Lake Winnipeg this year. A couple of years ago my cousin Martin was training for the Canadian Death Race and decided to do an “out-and-back” course, making this a 60+km ultra. It caught on and now there are a few brave souls who do it each year.
This is a psychologically taxing run across the lake. I say ‘run’ because it’s not really a race. I had a lot of fun, though, and the price is right. Just remember – there’s no support on the first leg if you do the out-and-back!
Here’s how the run turned out (roughly):
Time: 8:45 (ish)
Distance: 62km or so
Pace: Not good
